Musical Mali
For our lesson on Mali we created small versions of the Djembe drum (pronounced Gem-bay) We simply took masking tape and put it across the tops of plastic cups and decorated the outside with patterned paper glued on with Mod-podge. My favorite part of this group was the above video- filmed in Africa- it is a beautiful narrative of people living and working in a village all to a musical beat created by all of the things they do everyday. It also shows the entire process of a Djembe drum being built from cutting the tree down to stretching the calf skin over the top. I must say the music is super catchy as well :)
