Israeli Op-Art

For our lesson on the country of Israel we talked briefly about the Dead Sea and its unusual properties. We did a quick experiment about salt content in water to show how salt makes things float. We simply put a golf ball into a cup of water and slowly filled it with spoonfuls of salt to mimic the Dead Sea. For our art project we talked about Israeli Op-Artist Yaacov Agam who creates large scale optical illusion paintings and sculptures. We created pictures folded accordion-style so they could be viewed from two different angles. We used geometric shapes to color and cut into strips to place on alternating accordion folds.
